Half Man Half Poet: An enzyme of rhyme designed for this time
This is not just another poetry book, it is a book of comments, observations and of course, messages. When God keeps pouring words into Brendan Conboy's head, what else is he supposed to do to do? These poems are bursting with rhythm and rhyme and the need to be spoken out (if you are brave enough).
This book looks at four main themes.
1. Life observation 2. Social issues 3. Health 4. Christian
Why is it called 'Half Man Half Poet'? Let the title poem explain...
Half Man - Half Poet
I’m half the man I used to be
And half the poet I’d like to be
My body has declined
But my mind has refined
It’s just the way I was designed
So, I get in the game
I don’t complain
I don’t want fame
Want to tell you about Jesus’ name
He speaks to me in poetry
But words just can’t explain
The way I feel, I know that God is real
So, I rhyme in time again and again and again
The words keep coming filling my head
The day they stop is the day I’m dead
Since the day I crossed the line
He speaks to me in rhyme
It happens all the time
Even though I’m half the man I used to be
God sees my reverence,
obedience and common sense
And He says – “I haven’t finished with you yet
Just sow the seeds and forget,
how you used to look
I’ll give you words to fill a book, again and again
Much more than ten
You’re not the man you used to be
You are the poet that I set free
I need you for this deed, to plant the seed
So, those in need can see
Why I did bleed”
I don’t ignore the more and more words in store
I speak out for the poor
Then God says,
“You’re not the man you used to be
This is the score
You have answered the call
I have made you more”
